Stories from unexpected parts of the world

We tend to look at the Anglo-saxon world if we want to be inspired for marketing and media innovations. And probably it's true that the English speaking part of our planet is culturally dominant in most parts of the world, to the frustration of some. The makers of this blog are also biased in the Anglo-saxon way, situated as we are in multilangual Holland.

But there is so much more to see and find in other parts of our world, speaking of great storytelling examples. Like this nice example stemming from France, created on a truly global scale with a strong Latin and Asian scent: handmade stories / 39 femmes. For those who fear French, it's also available in English... It is a fine example of nonlinear storytelling with the image as the main narrative tool, presenting a rich environment where one can scroll and be suprised. The webdoc was made by Julien Champarnaud (cutcut.fr) and Claire Pesqueux.

It's a beautiful project on craftswoman in developping countries, each of them using highly elaborate skills to produce traditional products like cloths and pottery.

The story is focussing on strong women who manage to create independency using their skills.

The project portraits 39 women from South America to Asia, using video and stills and interviewing the women while at work in their private environment. It was created on the french Klynt-platform introduced here some months ago. This web documentary is made in the best French tradition of expeditionary journalism, expressing love and respect for local people and the beautiful creations of indigenous cultures.
