Tell as a comic

You might think digital innovations occur only in the western world, but look at this. The Arabic news company Aljazeera – well, its American branche – showed of with this remarkable form, a digital comic book with a journalism story. They call it a comic-journalism feature.

Of course the comic book on a digital platform isn’t new at all, but the combination of journalism as a comic and the tool they developped to make it is truly an innovation. They released the tool, Pulp-Press and the webviewer Pulp as an open source project.

The story, “Terms of Service” is complex but very relevant. It’s about privacy, security and big data in the digital era. It’s scaring, because it shows us how far the big companies go in gathering our data online and how they make use of it.

The story is a conversation between the author of the story and the comic book artist. They both star as personalities in the comic. It’s 46 pages long, which goes beyond the definition of a long read. But the comic formula makes it digestable. It’s a digital book for mobile and eReaders as well, available in app stores and as ePub. Use the tool and make one yourself.
